Delicate Opposition vase 5

£65.00

[Delicate Opposition] is an ongoing exploration of contrast—between unrestrained mark-making and quiet structure, instinct and control. In this series, expressive cobalt brushstrokes move freely across porcelain surfaces, occasionally punctuated by delicate splashes of pink. These gestural marks are grounded by blocks of celadon glaze, offering a moment of calm and balance.

The work draws from a deeply personal memory: one of my earliest moments of creative expression was scribbling on the white wall of my family's small flat as a toddler. I wasn't scolded—instead, that act of play was quietly accepted. In hindsight, it was a formative experience: a silent permission to make, to explore, to leave a trace.

[Delicate Opposition] revisits that sense of freedom, now filtered through the language of material and form. The brushwork is intuitive, guided more by feeling than precision, while the celadon glaze introduces a deliberate counterpoint—a boundary that doesn't restrict, but defines space and allows the expressive elements to breathe.

This series exists in the space between chaos and calm, speaking to the balance I continue to seek in both my process and practice.
